SADDLE RIVER, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A New Jersey mansion that Rosie O’Donnell recently sold at a loss will be demolished to make way for an affordable housing development, according to a report.
O’Donnell sold the Saddle River home for $5.3 million last month after first listing it for nearly $7 million in 2015, the New York Post reported.
The home will soon be replaced by a 60-unit development that will include approximately 12 affordable units “as part of a fair housing court settlement between the borough of Saddle River and the Fair Share Housing Center of NJ,” the outlet reported.
Plans for the development are expected to move forward despite opposition from some neighboring residents, as well as New Jersey state Sen. Holly Schepisi, according to the outlet.
“The town itself is against [it] but they had no choice,” Schepisi told the outlet.
“Everything is out of pocket here,” she added. “Pay out of pocket for sports, schools…. How is somebody with very little income viable to live in this town?”
O'Donnell's representative didn't immediately respond to the Post's request for comment.
