Like many children who are adopted, some later research details about their biological parents.

However, a North Carolina woman, who was adopted as a child, received the alarming news her biological father was once one of the FBI’s Most Wanted fugitives.

Kathy Gillcrist learned the FBI is still looking for her birth father, William Bradford Bishop Jr.

The 63-year-old said that her biological father was a former service officer at the U.S. State Department, who allegedly killed his 68-year-old mother, 37-year-old wife, and three sons in 1976, according to WECT.

After taking a 23andMe DNA test, Gilchrist found her third cousin, Susan Gillmor, a genealogist who helped her track down her birth mother. Turns out her biological mother placed Gilchrist up for adoption in 1957.

Tracking down her biological father took several years of research. When Gillmor finally found the birth father she said, “All I’m going to do is give you his name," Gilchrist told the outlet. “I said ‘is it someone famous?’ She said, ‘Um, yeah.’”

When Gillcrist learned he was a fugitive wanted for murder, she didn't find it too disconcerting.

“I just laughed,” she shared. “We have a great sense of humor in my adoptive family and I thought, ‘Of course, my father’s a murderer!’”

Bishop has been wanted by the FBI since 1976 and made the agency's most-wanted list in 2014. He is still on the run and the FBI is still trying to locate Bishop.

Despite the disturbing news about her birth father, Gilchrist is glad she was able to make the connection as she has since also found six of her half-siblings.
