John Mayer is nearing a deal with Paramount Plus to host his very own late night talk and performance series, Variety reports. Later With John Mayer has been pitched to potential broadcast partners and will reportedly be based on the format of the long-running BBC series Later with Jools Holland.
Mayer’s show will blend performance segments with interviews on a set that’s “designed to look like an after-hours club for musicians.”
This wouldn’t be the first time Mayer has hosted a late night talk show as he filled in on CBS’ The Late Late Show in 2015 following Craig Ferguson’s departure. Mayer also hosts the Instagram Live show Current Mood.
Should Later With John Mayer come to fruition, it would air on a weekly basis on Paramount Plus. There’s possibility that performance segments would air periodically on CBS and Variety indicates there could be potential tie-ins with the GRAMMYs.
Paramount Plus and a representative for Mayer declined to issue a comment to Variety.
