This year we celebrate 50 years of Hip-Hop. Born at a birthday party in the rec room of an apartment building in The Bronx, New York City on August 11, 1973 -- Hip-Hop's cultural impact is still growing and rising to new heights as one of the most influential musical art forms.

As part of the celebration of Hip-Hop’s journey through the years, artists, cities, events, and stories, were asking artists, actors and anyone who’s willing, to share some of their firsts when it comes to the influential and trailblazing genre and culture that is Hip-Hop.
Joining in on the celebration and conversation during a recent chat, Power and Ozark actor Joseph Sikora shared “a quick story of a moment when I thought, ‘damn this is Hip-Hop.’”
It was “when I saw Rock n’ Roll kinda guys outside of Medusa’s club down at Belmont and Sheffield," Sikora said. “It was like all of these elements where I realized the different elements of Hip-Hop. Like obviously Rap, and B-boying, and graffiti writing, and also knowledge and how they are independent and all exist within each other.” Adding, “and then it was was reflected when KRS-One said, 'Rap is something you do, Hip-Hop is something you live.'”

Born in raised in Chicago, Joseph also reflected on Chi-Town Hip-Hop, noting, “it’s different now, with King Von and Lil Durk. A lot of the new Chicago guys, Chicago has really come into its own. But back when I was coming up, who repped Chicago the hardest was Twista, nobody repped Chicago harder than Twista. That’s pre-Kanye, really pre-Common, but Chicago is proud of Common and Kanye and they’ve done extraordinary things to change the face of Hip-Hop.”
