During a recent American Idol promo shoot, Katy Perry teased her new single alongside co-writer, Lu Kala, a 28-year-old Canadian-Congolese singer. While Perry isn’t letting anyone in on the details of the new track — the title and release date remain a mystery — she is promising it’s some of her best work to date.

Perry described the song as “one of my biggest songs that has yet to come out,” while Kala shared her excitement to be a part of it all on social media. “To know me is to know that I’ve been a Katy fan FOREVER!! You can’t spell Pop without [Katy Perry] and as a Pop gurlll, this means the WORLD TO ME!!!!” She wrote in one post before adding in another. “Thank you [Katy Perry] for letting me be the tiniest part of what you have coming, I can’t wait for the world to hear it.”

The song will be the lead single from Perry’s yet-to-be revealed album that she’s teasing is full of joy and happiness. It’s her first album since the release of Smile in 2020. “I just have yet to make a record from a place of feeling really happy and whole and full of love,” she told Access Hollywood. “Sometimes artists are like, ‘Oh, that’s boring, you want to make music from kind of like a tougher place,’ but actually it’s very bright and joyful, like pure joy and fun and playful and celebratory and a party.”

Her top secret, sixth studio album comes after the 39-year-old revealed she’d be stepping away from her role as a judge on American Idol to make way for new adventures.

“I love the show so much, but I want to go see the world and maybe bring new music,”  she told Jimmy Kimmel in February “I think this will probably be my last show, my last season for Idol… It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat… let’s just say I’m creating space for my new wingspan.”
