While Ed Sheeran is one of England’s cherished successes, Lewis Capaldi is his Scottish parallel. So, when he sang to a sea of Scotts at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend festival in Scotland, Lewis got the entire crowd to playfully turn on Sheeran with some choice words.

“Ed is not here today,” the Scottish singer told the crowd. “Yeah, f*** him. Everybody on the count of three say, ‘F*** you, Ed.'” To which they all happily obliged.

Sheeran of course took to Instagram with a response, sharing a reel of him saying, “I thought we were friends, Lewis. I thought we were friends you…” and then came the barrage of bleeps.

“I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved,” he added, referencing Capaldi’s hit song, to caption the post which included the original offending video.

The two pop stars from across the pond have playfully poked fun at each other before, all starting with a 2022 interview when Capaldi shared that Sheeran suggested he buy a house, which he did, not knowing it reeked of “cigarettes and feet.”

“If it does make him feel better, I will buy the house off him,” Sheeran offered, which Capaldi is still waiting on Ed to make good on, or at least he’s still joking about waiting on Ed to make good on it.

“Let’s put it this way, if this album doesn’t go well, I’ve got a real issue on my hands,” Capaldi said in a follow-up this year. “I saw Ed on your show saying he was gonna buy it off me, right. I’ve been chasing that man on email — nothing. I haven’t seen him since… Ed has still burdened my life to an incredible degree.”

Playful punchlines aside, we’ve kind of become accustomed to this fake rift, and wait to see what turn it takes next. For now check out Capaldi engaging his crowd and Sheeran’s response to it below.
