While he’s appreciated watching the success of “Astronaut In The Ocean” unfurl throughout 2021, Masked Wolf tells us he’s always on to the next, focusing on new music to write and seeking out more success.
The Australian rapper, also known as Harry Michael, recently just quit his job to solely focus on further pursuing his music career. “You have to fully dive into it, there’s no like half, half” explains Michael. He continues, “The success of the song obviously has played a massive part, but it’s like you get your opportunity to do this as like your love and your job, and it’s like why would you half, half it?”
The rapper jokes that he used to refer to himself as the “Australian Lil Dicky.” He also tells us that one of his greatest musical influences has always been Eminem. Inspired by his hustle and his “grind,” Masked Wolf looks to Eminem to remind himself “not to give up in the moment.”
Having just turned 30, the artist is grateful that his success has started to roll out during a point in his life where he’s more mature than he’s ever been. In regards to handling rising fame, Masked Wolf says, “I respect it more and grind harder… how it’s happened is how I would have wanted it to happen.”
Masked Wolf released “Astronaut In The Ocean” in 2019, but spent a year and a half working to build the “Masked Wolf Brand from zero,” explains the rapper. He adds, “I never said to myself ‘it’s not doing well,’ it just was a long build and long grind for the brand of Masked Wolf.”
With the pandemic keeping everyone inside, the opportunity to explore more music, lead to the snowball effect and success around “Astronaut In The Ocean.” Masked Wolf never expected this particular track to take off the way it did.
At the moment, Masked Wolf tells us that he’s working on “a lot” of singles and working on an album, which will be centered around “an astronomy thing.”
