On Wednesday, the R&B singer reassured fans that her re-recorded album is dropping relatively soon. “Before the end of the year for sure,” she revealed on Good Morning America. “There’s so much going on. So I’m in the studio and re-recording as an NFT. So I’m definitely excited about that. It will be out later this year.” Reportedly, the “Rock Wit U” singer has been recording her old songs in Toronto. And fans can expect the same vibe with a sonically new spin.
Previously, Ashanti praised Taylor Swift for re-recording her earlier albums. The “You Belong With Me” singer made the decision in 2019 following a dispute with Scooter Braun and label exec Scott Borchetta. “I think Taylor is amazing for what she’s done and to be able to be a female in this very male-dominated industry, to accomplish that is amazing, ” Ashanti told Metro in May. Apparently the bold move inspired the “Happy” singer to take a similar approach.
The 20th anniversary of Ashanti’s debut album fell in April this year. The breakthrough release debuted at No.1 on the US Billboard 200 and the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums in 2002.
