It’s no secret that Stabler’s coming back, but for how long?
Christopher Meloni’s character, Elliot Stabler, will appear in “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” beyond his April 1 appearance, TVLine reports.
Over the weekend, executive producer Warren Leight tweeted that his show had shot “three Benson/Stabler scenes today.” When a viewer asked when those scenes would air, Leight responded, “Yesterday’s scenes were for an 'SVU' down the road.”
Stabler will continue fighting crimes in “SVU” in an episode called “Return of the Prodigal Son.”
In that episode, Stabler tries to contact someone who has been threatening his family and will serve as the first half of a crossover that goes into the premiere of "Law & Order: Organized Crime." The show will follow Chris Meloni’s character as he returns to the New York City police department.
However, no one knows how many times Stabler will show up after the crossover. TV Line confirmed that Meloni and Mariska Hargitay, who stars as Olivia Benson in the show, have been shooting at least two episodes.
Last week, the NBC show's official Twitter account teased the 59-year-old actor's return in a brand new promo.
“It’s time to make things right. Stabler comes home, April 1 on @NBC,” the caption read.
In the dramatic clip, Stabler can be seen making his way through the city in a mini-montage of action shots set against overlays of police lights and a moody, blue-tinged urban landscape.
The highly anticipated “Organized Crime” was first set to premiere as part of NBC’s Fall 2020 schedule, but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
