What’s more, the Gospel sibling duos had a surprise guest, the one and only Stevie Wonder! Towards the end of the hour-long music competition, the GRAMMY-winning musician made a brief cameo. “What a perfect way to celebrate this Resurrection Day,” Stevie announced. “It was wonderful just to hear the music and celebration of the most high,” he continued. Furthermore, Stevie mentioned that the Easter Sunday VERZUZ was “incredible” and he considers the battle between Mary Mary and BeBe & CeCe a tie.
The “Isn’t She Lovely” singer also made a public statement afterwards, saying “There is no better way to wake the world up to where and what we need to do. For those of you who choose to hate, for those of you who choose to not make sure that everyone has voting rights. For those of you that take 1,200 years to sign an anti-lynching law… God has made a promise to us that he will fulfill. But America, you have so much possibility. Grow up and get the job done.”
Highlights from the VERZUZ battle included Mary Mary performing a remixed rendition of their single “Get Up” and both duos harmonizing together on stage at the same time. Last month, VERZUZ announced a brand new season on social media. Upcoming matchups include Cypress Hill and Onyx, a Mother’s Day special, a Juneteenth Special and more.
