In a September 14 Instagram post the “Aquaman” actor was sporting what appeared to be a very recent, large tattoo on the side of his head. What can be seen is an intricate tribal piece. What hair hadn’t been shaved off was up in a ponytail.

In the video post Momoa can be heard saying, “Proud to be Hawaiian. I got something for you.”

Next he pops off the bowler hat he’s been wearing to show off the new tattoo. In the caption he tagged Hawaiian tattoo master Keone Tunes.

“It was a true honor 20 years in the making,” he wrote.

People in the comments were digging the “Game of Thrones”’ star’s new look. Fellow actor and “Fast” franchise actor Tyrese was really digging the new vibe typing, “Love you big bro your spirit is humble and so infectious and great! FastX is going to kill s***… Welcome to the FAST FAMILY!!!!!” (Momoa will be featured in the 10th movie in the “Fast” franchise.)

Momoa, whose father is native Hawaiian, was born in Honolulu and his full name is Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa. In 2019 the actor told CNN about getting back to the Hawaiian Islands, “For my soul, I need to be there.”

During the post’s video Momoa also references his upcoming Apple TV series, “Chief of War.” According to Variety the show “follows the story of the unification and colonization of Hawaii from an indigenous point of view.” It has been given an eight episode order from Apple. Momoa will be the star as well as write and executive produce the drama.

The show will be Momoa’s second go-round with Apple as he’s currently starring in the third season of “See” on the streaming service.
