The NYPD safely removed a large swarm of 10,000 bees from a traffic light on Sixth Avenue and 47th Street, near Times Square, police said.

The swarm was reported on Citizen around 4:30 p.m., pictured huddled closely around a light post.

“Det. Travis from [NYPD Special Ops] has taken over the 'sting operations' and is already creating a buzz,” the department tweeted Tuesday.

The NYPD’s bee team typically sucks up the bees using a vacuum that leads to a plastic bucket — a process that doesn’t harm the insects, according to the department.

One of the beloved veteran NYPD beekeepers, Darren Mays, recently retired after more than six years of service on the bee beat. Mays would either bring the bees back to a hive on the roof of the 104th Precinct station house, or relocate them outside of the city, he recently told NY1.
