Good morning Upper East Siders, Gossip Girl is coming back!
That’s the word on the street as WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming service HBO Max has given a 10-episode straight-to-series reboot that will follow a new set of Manhattan prep school students under the watchful eye of a new Gossip Girl website, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The series will pick-up eight years after the original went off the air and tackle how much social media and NYC has changed since then.
While the original show’s creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are executive producing the new update, there’s no word if Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford or Ed Westick will make an appearance.
Here’s a roundup of what the cast has been up to since winding up the show’s six-season run in 2012.
Blake Lively (Serena van der Woodsen)
Lively has transitioned into a full-blown movie star appearing in films such as the period drama The Age of Adaline, horror movie The Shallows and opposite Anna Kendrick in the comedy/thriller A Simple Favor. Shortly after wrapping Gossip Girl, she married Ryan Reynolds with whom she has two daughters. The couple are currently expecting their third child.
Leighton Meester (Blair Waldorf)
Meester has proven to be a true renaissance woman having starred in films such as Life Partners, The Judge and Like Sunday, Like Rain, tackled the Broadway stage in Of Mice and Men and even released her debut album Heartstrings on her own record label. She currently stars on the ABC comedy Single Parents, which will launch its second season in the fall. In 2014, she married The OC star Adam Brody and the following year they welcomed a daughter.
Penn Badgley (Dan Humphrey)
Badgley has enjoyed exploring his musical side with his indie pop band MOTHXR, which released their debut album in 2016. He starred in several films including Greetings From Tim Buckley, Cymbeline and The Paper Store before landing the role of deranged stalker Joe Goldberg on the Netflix series YOU. In 2017, he married singer Domino Kirke, sister of Girls star Jemima Kirke.
Chace Crawford (Nate Archibald)
Crawford has kept busy appearing in several indie films such as I Do Until I Don’t, All About Nina and even leveraged his gorgeous looks to play one of the Manson family members in Charlie Says. After having a lead role on the ABC nighttime soap Blood & Oil, Crawford will next be seen in the Amazon series The Boys, which premieres July 26th. On the romantic front, he dated actress Rebecca Rittenhouse for over three years before splitting this spring.
Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass)
After playing the bad boy on Gossip Girl, Westwick starred as Romeo’s rival in the 2013 film Romeo & Juliet. Following a few other indie film roles, he currently stars on the British TV comedy White Gold, which is currently in its second season. In 2017, Westwick was accused of sexual assault by three women. The actor denied the allegations and was not prosecuted for the alleged offenses. He spilt from girlfriend Jessica Serfaty in 2018.
A series reboot could be in the making. But what is the original cast up to?
