Lil Nas X went from a relatively unknown artist to an international Pop sensation, thanks to TikTok. His viral Country crossover single “Old Town Road” spent 17 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 Billboard chart in 2019.

The track which featured the legendary Billy Ray Cyrus, actually broke the record for the longest consecutive run on the chart. "Old Town Road" went on to win Best Music Video and Record Of The Year at the 2020 GRAMMYs, marking both Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cryrus’ first GRAMMY wins! Thank you to everybody I am now Grammy Award winning artist Lil Nas X,” he exclaimed on Twitter at the time of winning.

Since then, Lil Nas X, formerly a GRAMMYs Best New Artist nominee, has dropped his debut album Montero. A nod to his birth name, Montero was released in 2021. His debut studio album features hits like “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”, “Industry Baby,” and “That’s What I Want.” This year, Lil Nas X received nominations in three of the “Big Four” categories: Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. Lil Nas X is also nominated for Best Music Video and Best Melodic Rap Performance along with Jack Harlow.

The GRAMMY-nominated Montero is a vulnerable and transparent album. It begins on an upbeat note and ends on the more melodic side. Pitchfork describes Lil Nas X as maneuvering through different genres “in an attempt to unload some of his heavier baggage.” Mostly a blend of Pop and Hip Hop, the album tackles mental health, self-acceptance, family disputes and sexuality. “I wanted to be even more authentic in my music and let people into my life,” he previously told Variety.

A six-time GRAMMY nominee and two-time winner, Lil Nas X, is set to perform at the anticipated award show this year. Previously, the “Montero” singer performed alongside Billy Ray Cyrus, BTS, Mason Ramsey and Diplo in 2020. H.E.R, Nas, Jon Batiste, Silk Sonic, and John Legend were also recently announced as additional 2022 GRAMMY performers.

The 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards will air live from Las Vegas on Sunday, April 3, featuring performances from Olivia Rodrigo, BTS, Billie Eilish and more.Stay with Audacy for more exclusive coverage of music's biggest night at audacy.com/grammys.
