Some artists wear their tattoos on display as a way of further defining their eccentricities, however, Dolly Parton has always been one to keep quiet about her ink. Recently she revealed to People that she does have some “tasteful” tats but didn’t go into more detail than that.

However, during an appearance on the UK’s There’s Something About Movies, comedian, Jennifer Saunders shared that Dolly had showed her one of her tattoos when they were together in Los Angeles. Saunder’s explains, “I was in Los Angeles with Roseanne because she wanted to buy [the rights to] Ab Fab. And she decided that because Ab Fab is all about girls drinking, we’d go out.”

While out that night, Roseanne spotted Parton sitting at another table. Saunder’s explains, “She went, ‘There’s Dolly Parton.’ I went, ‘Oh, I love Dolly Parton,’ and she went, ‘Do you want to meet Dolly Parton?’ I went, ‘Yes.’” She continues, “We sat one side, she sat the other side. Dolly and Roseanne are sharing stories about tattoos. And Dolly went, ‘Ok, I have tattoos.’ And we went, ‘Really? Dolly Parton, you have tattoos? She just unbuttoned her little jerkin and there’s full t***s rose up, I have to say, and she has the most beautiful tattoos, like works of art.”
When asked about the location, Saunders shared a bit more, offering up that they were, “in her arm pits. And then she buttoned it back up and went, ‘So that will go no further.’ It was honestly the strangest thing.”
During her conversation with People Parton had shared, “I do have some tattoos, that’s true. But they’re tasteful. I’m not a tattoo girl” She adds, “Ribbons and bows and butterflies are the things that I have. I was very sick for a while and I had to wear a feeding tube. It left a little indentation in my side and I didn’t like it because I’m so fair that my scars turn purple on me.” Dolly shared that she chose to get tattoos so that she could turn a negative experience into something positive.
