Eminem -- also known as Slim Shady and just simply Shady -- has requested a protective order be filed against stars Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon of The Real Housewives of Potomac as part of an ongoing trademark dispute stemming from their Reasonably Shady podcast. Earlier this year, Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers, filed his opposition to the reality stars' requested trademark, saying his brand would be "damaged" if allowed to proceed.
As the rapper owns the trademark for the term “Shady” for use on merchandise, this looks as if Eminem has an easy win ahead of him, however, Bryant and Dixon have asked the court to dismiss the motion and insist he should testify under oath or by written statement.
According to Eminem’s lawyers, the protective order was filed in early December in order to protect the rapper from an “unduly burdensome” deposition because of his “limited knowledge of the subjects at issue,” instead suggesting someone with “superior knowledge to Mathers on the relevant topics.”
According to People, Bryant and Dixon’s attorney however contends, “It seems obvious to us that if you file a lawsuit, you should be made available to be deposed.” The team, she says, would “like to question Mathers at least about his use of the expressions Slim Shady and Shady”.
