You don’t need to leave the house to show mom how much you care.
While many people will be at home under stay-at-home orders amid the COVID-19 pandemic, there are still plenty of ways to celebrate Mother’s Day this year.
Whether you won’t be able to see your mom in person, or are a parent yourself wondering how to best celebrate the holiday with your kids, here are some creative ways to celebrate Mother’s Day while social distancing.
Host a virtual brunch

You don’t have to skip this classic Mother’s Day activity just because you can’t leave the house. Help get mom’s mind off the quarantine with a nice meal over a popular video chatting service like Zoom or Skype. With a menu as simple as eggs, waffles, and mimosas, you and your mom can enjoy a delicious brunch meal together.
Invite other family and loved ones to a video call

The more the merrier, especially during social distancing when your mother may be unable to see the people that she is closest to. “Your mom would be thrilled if she sat down in-front of her computer on Mother's Day and discovered you arranged a Zoom or FaceTime call with her family and favorite friends,” says Kathryn Johann of the event planning company Parties By the Sea. “If platforms like Zoom aren't her style, HouseParty is another fun and easy way to get multiple family and friends all together that's gaining popularity by the day.”
Prepare a photo slideshow

Creating a photo slideshow is a great way to elevate what may otherwise be an ordinary video chat. Show your mom how much you care by pulling photos of your favorite memories together. This will not only tug at her heart strings, but the potential for a creative presentation is high — whether via screen share, sending her a photo montage via iPhone, and even including a pre-written heartfelt speech letting her know how much she means to you.
Make her a homemade DIY gift

While you can still order gifts from online and local businesses, making a DIY gift at home is a great way to celebrate the mom in your life. It’s also a wonderful way to engage younger children by encouraging them to creatively express their love for the mom or mother figure in their life. A handmade card or craft can be as impactful for a mom as flowers or a necklace.
Play a mom-themed trivia game

What town was mom born in? What model was her first car? These are some of the questions only a true mom-ficionado would know. See who knows mom the best with a virtual trivia game on Mother’s Day. Come up with questions yourself, or have your mother come up with them if you want to get in on the game as well.
Take a screen recording

Hey, it’s 2020 — home movies aren’t just the videos you take on a camcorder anymore. Take a screen recording of your virtual Mother’s Day to preserve the memory so you can look back in the future at how you celebrated holidays during that one pandemic.
