Just as all of the afterparties ended on Monday morning, three-time new GRAMMY winner Killer Mike joined The Big Tigger Morning Show in his hometown of Atlanta addressing the situation simply, “I won... We slide, we partied all night... Ain't nothin’ had happened, man... I looked good. I was fresh. Let me tell you, this was my day,” he said. "We gonna get back to the real question. ‘How did he do it? Three GRAMMYS, 20 years in the game, 48 years old, beat out everybody in the thing, man. He beat the best of the best.’ So, all you can say is he one of the best, the best album in the 50th year of Hip Hop came from Atlanta, Georgia -- from a man who would be 50 years old in three years.”
After being awarded the Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance GRAMMYs -- his career second through fourth, all for his latest release, Michael -- Killer Mike was seen being arrested and led away in handcuffs.
According to reports, security working at the awards ceremony claimed a female guard was injured by Mike. A senior law enforcement source tells Rolling Stone that after being directed to a checkpoint, Killer Mike allegedly attempted to go around, causing the previously mentioned injury. A citizen’s arrest for misdemeanor battery was filed, the woman received medical treatment, and had her alleged injuries documented.
Mike has since updated fans, sharing in a statement that he’s doing “better than OK," while going on to explain that he and his team had "experienced some confusion" around which door they should enter, eventually leading to an "over-zealous security guard" getting involved. He concludes by saying, "My team and I have the upmost confidence that I will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing.”
Mike also extended his "appreciation to the Grammy’s Committee for recognizing me and my team for the work that went into ‘MICHAEL.’ We are incredibly proud and are basking in this moment. I am also grateful that one of my prayers has been answered – the day after my Grammy win – I learned that my son, who has been on the list for a kidney for years, finally has a match. Obviously, we are elated."
