After candidly expressing he felt some type of way about Kendrick Lamar being chosen as the headliner for next year’s Super Bowl Halftime show, Lil Wayne is speaking out once again, revealing his outlook has shifted, noting he’s spoken with the Cali rapper and is rooting for Kendrick to “kill” it.

Earlier this year, after Kendrick was announced as the Halftime show headliner at the big game, taking place in Wayne’s hometown of New Orleans, Weezy publicly shared his disappointment. Now, months later, during an interview with Skip Bayless, the rapper revealed that he and Kendrick have since spoken and there’s no bad blood between them.

“I’ve spoken to him and I wished him all the best and told him he better kill it. He gotta kill it,” Weezy told Skip, who went on to note the he remains “baffled and angry” that his guest was not tapped to perform the most-viewed TV program of the year, taking place in his own backyard.

“For whatever reason I believe it’s over my head,” Wayne said as part of the “general” reason why he believes he was passed over for the gig. “I don’t know why, period. Obviously I believe that it’s perfect… I do not know why.”

He continued his thoughts, “The person I am? I straight look at it like, you ain’t there, you gotta get there,” Wayne said.

Disputing that justification, Bayless shook his head at Wayne and called him the undisputed “G.O.A.T.,” before doubling-down on the fact that the game is being played at the Caesars Superdome in the Big Easy. “It just makes no sense to me. I don’t get it… their politics played… I don’t know,” Bayless added.

“That’s another part of it, there’s things I can’t control,” Wayne went on to express. Despite his well wishes and high hopes for Lamar, when asked if he felt any better about it now than he did when the news first dropped, Wayne smiled and said “no.”

That being said, the way things played out has motivated him to talk to the people he trusts and his management team about his “want to get to the point where I’m undeniable. I want them to walk in there and have 10 other choices and whoever’s in charge says, ‘no, you have to go with him!’”

Wayne was also asked about Lamar rapping about the topic on his GNX track “wacced out murals,” and admitted that despite firing off on X after its release, he hadn’t actually heard the song. Skip then read out the lyrics in question, to which Wayne replied — “That was my first time hearing it. I think he’s a fan like I’m a fan of his music. I think he meant he saw what everyone else saw, he saw how much it meant to me… He didn’t let me down. It ain’t like he can control it.”

Knowing that the Halftime show is seldom just a one man or woman show, with many planned and surprise appearances sprinkled throughout, Wayne was also asked about the possibility of him performing alongside Lamar at the Super Bowl as a special guest, given he and Kendrick collaborated on Tha Carter V. Sadly, that possibility was quickly shut down, with the rapper sharing he’s “not even gonna be in the country” when the game takes place.
