When asked what advice she has for newer artists like Roan who has made headlines for struggling with the demands of fame, Mariah Carey shared some words of wisdom.

“Well, I have been through my share of dramas,” Carey told the Associated Press. “It’s not fun because you grow up thinking, ‘I want to be famous.'”

While not specifically addressing Roan, Carey said her advice to any up and comer would be keeping sights on what’s “real.”

“My advice would be try your hardest to go into this industry with a love of your talent or what’s really real for you,” she shared. “You know, if it’s like, ‘I want to be famous. I want to run around with those people, whoever they are, the famous people,’ then it’s probably not the best idea,” Carey added.

26-year-old Chappell seems to be in line with that advice and has shared before that her focus has always been the music and struggles most when fans lack boundaries and respect. “I chose this career path because I love music and art and honoring my inner child,” she previously told Billboard. “I do not accept harassment of any kind because I chose this path, nor do I deserve it.”

After cancelling two recent festival performances to focus on her mental health, Roan is back on the road with The Midwest Princess Tour, which is scheduled to wrap on October 13 in Austin.
