At this rate, we’re going to have to change the name of the “six degrees of separation” game from Kevin Bacon to Dave Grohl. Why? Because Dave Grohl is friends with everybody.

The Foo Fighters frontman’s presence was felt on this season of The Masked Singer. As we always do, we’ll warn those of you who are waiting to catch up on the show that spoilers are ahead.
The big winner of this season was Piglet, who was unmasked to reveal pop star Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees. Earlier on in the season, Lachey, ahem… Piglet, performed a fantastic rendition of the Foo Fighters hit single “The Pretender.”
It was a strange occurrence as Dave Grohl is notoriously reluctant to allow his music to be used on reality competitions. According to Yahoo Entertainment, no Foo Fighters song has ever been played on American Idol and only one has been played on The Voice, which came in this past week’s finale.
So how did Lachey pull it off? It helps when you can go straight to the source.
It turns out that Lachey and Grohl are good friends. “I'm a huge fan of rock — huge Zeppelin fan, huge Foo Fighters fan — and ironically, Dave Grohl’s kids and my kids went to school together,” he told Yahoo Entertainment.
"So I know Dave and I wanted to do that song, and I went to him and said, ‘Hey man, would you, would you bless this?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, man — but you gotta kill it!’”
That’s a high bar to live up to. Lachy admitted he “felt the pressure to go out there and do it some justice.” With Grohl’s blessing and the only stipulation that Lachey “kill it,” he went out and gave it a shot.
Did Grohl ultimately give his stamp of approval after Lachey’s performance on The Masked Singer? “Well, he said he liked it!” He laughed. “But what’s he going to say to me, ‘You butchered it’? He still speaks to me, so I have to assume I didn't do it too bad.”
