Luke Combs and Tracy Chapman came together for one of the biggest moments of the GRAMMYs on Sunday night.

Nearly one year after Combs paid tribute to Chapman with a cover of “Fast Car” on his 2023 album, Gettin’ Old, he was joined by the iconic singer-songwriter for a heart-warming duet of the hit on music’s biggest stage.
“My Dad had a 1988 Ford F-150 pickup truck where [he] would play me that Tracy Chapman self-titled album,” Luke shared in a video that played before his performance sharing Chapman was one of his biggest musical inspirations growing up. “That song, ‘Fast Car,’ was my favorite song before I even knew what a favorite song was. I have been playing that song since I could play guitar, honestly.”
With the song being at his root of his love for music, performing the duet alongside Chapman was clearly a big moment for Luke, who could be seen soaking up every second on the GRAMMY stage before receiving a standing ovation. Also soaking up the moment was Chapman, who has remained largely out of the spotlight since finishing her last tour in 2009.
The iconic singer-songwriter was right at home on the GRAMMY stage where she last stood 35 years ago accepting the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “Fast Car,” in addition to Best Contemporary Folk Album and Best New Artist.
