In honor of Women’s History Month, we're celebrating the power of Women in Country by honoring iconic heritage female artists, showcasing the genre's rising stars, and spotlighting today’s hit female artists. Today RADIO.COM welcomes singer and songwriter Lindsay Ell.
Following an incredible, full-band performance of her single “wAnt me back,” Lindsay spoke virtually with RADIO.COM’s Rob + Holly, getting incredible sound from her car if we’re being completely honest. Lindsay is fresh off a live stream that she put together to benefit her touring band and crew whose livelihoods have been impacted so greatly during the pandemic.
“You just take for granted things when everything’s right in front of our face all the time, or something as easy as opening your fridge and having food inside of it,” Lindsay explained. “So, I was so happy we were able to put over 200 people to work for a week… we raised over $60,000 for the band and crews, plus being able to put people back to work for a week.”
Getting into the topic of the day, when asked about her biggest female influence as a Country singer, Dolly Parton was naturally at the front of Lindsay’s mind. “She has consistently found a way to stay strong, stay sexy, say what she wants while still being cool… my goodness, she can do nothing wrong. As a female, it’s a very interesting and difficult line to walk, to be relevant and still mean something – and still be feminine, sexy while doing it. Dolly has found a way to navigate through decades.”
One word Lindsay would attach to herself these days is Inspired. “As a creative… I’m so inspired by the world around me,” she says, “that then helps me be more creative to put that inspiration into my music to hopefully inspire other people. It’s like this inspiration-feedback loop.”
