The 37-year-old singer-songwriter posted a video of himself covering one of Taylor’s recent “from the vault” tracks, “Now That We Don’t Talk,” included on the recent re-release of 1989 (Taylor’s Version). Hurd’s take on the song can be seen in a recent collaborative social media post alongside songwriter, Teddy Reimer.
“‘Now That We Don’t Talk’ from Teddy’s Studio,” Hurd wrote below the video. “Every time I cover a Taylor song I am amazed at how perfectly they are written,” he continued. “Hope everybody has a beautiful week, let us know what you think of this one and share it with yo frands. (also, go listen to Platonic in honor of the second verse).”
This isn’t the first time Hurd has covered a Swift song. He’s also gotten attention across the last few years for his covers of “Dress” from reputation and “False God” from Lover.
Hurd has regularly credited Swift’s songwriting for its poetic nature and relatability. No surprise that “Now That We Don’t Talk” is currently speaking to him as he is in the midst of navigating a divorce from Maren Morris after five years of marriage.
According to US, Morris cited “irreconcilable differences” and filed for divorce from Hurd on October 2, 2023. The two have a prenup in place. Morris and Hurd wed in March 2018 after meeting during a songwriting session for Tim McGraw. They welcomed their first child, Hayes on March 23, 2020.
The former couple were also frequent collaborators when it came to music. Some of their most noteworthy songs together include the 2022 hit, “Chasing After You” and Morris single, “I Can’t Love You Any More,” featuring Hurd.
