Whether he was hopped up on Milk Bones or simply misread Colton Eastman’s 0-1 pitch to Cavan Biggio (who was in Buffalo on a rehab assignment) as an invitation to play fetch, the seven-year-old retriever went maverick in the first inning, interrupting play with detours to the pitcher’s mound and home plate before finally retreating to the Bisons’ dugout.

Rookie’s entertaining—albeit completely unauthorized—infield romp predictably went viral, instantly capturing the attention of baseball fans and dog lovers everywhere.

Delightful as his shenanigans were, the loveable pooch (or whoever runs his Twitter account) seemed to regret his intrusion, profusely apologizing to Biggio after the game.

Could it have gone smoother? Sure. But at least Rookie made his Sahlen Field debut a memorable one.
