With the NBA Draft happening this Thursday, many eyes will be on the Golden State Warriors and what they will do with the No. 7 and 14 picks in the draft.
The team’s stars — Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green — have reportedly been lobbying the Warriors brass to make a move for Wizards star Bradley Beal and form a super team again.
There has also been speculation — to a much lesser extent — about Damian Lillard, although it appears to just be Beal or bust for the Warriors.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, “Like a lot of the league, Golden State’s going to wait and see how it goes with Bradley Beal. Short of Bradley Beal being available, I expect Golden State to use those picks at seven and 14 this week.”
Beal has not yet formally requested a trade from Washington, but he is reportedly strongly considering it.
The Warriors likely will not be the only suitors for Beal, either, but they could put together the best package with two lottery picks plus last year’s No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman, just to get things started.
The Wizards have the 15th pick in the draft and gaining two lottery picks is certainly appealing from their perspective.
Of course, if Beal is not available or traded elsewhere, the Warriors will continue to rebuild but the window to return to a championship with the current core of Curry, Thompson and Green may be dwindling.
