The NBA and Los Angeles Lakers have been among the most vocal social justice advocates across professional sports, and on Sunday Anthony Davis continued that trend.
The Lakers star arrived to Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat wearing a Colin Kaepernick 49ers jersey.
Kaepernick, of course, was the first athlete to protest social injustice and police brutality during the national anthem four years ago. He has not been signed to an NFL team since then.
Davis, LeBron James and nearly the entire NBA has knelt for the national anthem since the season restarted in the Orlando bubble back in July. .
In August, Davis, LeBron James and the rest of the Lakers left their hotel wearing red “MAGA” hats, except the words “great again” were crossed out and replaced with “arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor.”
The Lakers were also one of two teams that nearly ended the NBA season and considered refusing to play again after a day of boycotts following the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisc.
