Deshaun Watson left everyone in awe last week when he threw a touchdown pass after being inadvertently kicked in the face, but the moment has become even more impressive after learning just how scary the moment was for the Houston Texans quarterback.
According to NFL Network’s Melissa Stark, Watson thought his eyeball had fallen out when Raiders linebacker Tahir Whitehead’s foot found its way through his facemask.
On the play, Watson is seen putting his left hand up to his face in front of his eye before he throws the ball to tight end Darren Fells in the end zone to give the Texans a lead late in the fourth quarter.
Watson was on the ground in pain after the play, but remained in the game with his eyeball intact, but swollen.
The Texans quarterback initially planned to wear a visor on his helmet in Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars to protect his eye, which is still puffy, but the game is in London and there was concern about the mist fogging up the visor.
Watson has continued to grow and become one of the top quarterbacks in the league this season following his first Pro Bowl in 2018. He entered Sunday’s game with a 5-3 record and 16 touchdown passes to five interceptions, along with five rushing touchdowns, too. He also entered the day with a 69.3 completion percentage and 2,231 passing yards.
