Jalen Hurts arrives to team hotel in pajamas ahead of Eagles’ opener

Confidence is a hard trait to define, a sort of indescribable quality that you just know when you see it. It can manifest itself in a number of ways, but for Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts, confidence is arriving at the team hotel, less than 24 hours before kickoff at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, in immaculate pinstripe pajamas assembled from the finest designer fabrics.

Billy Crystal said it’s better to look good than to feel good, but in the case of Hurts, why can’t it be both? Hurts had, by all accounts, a phenomenal summer, impressing with his leadership and mastery of the Eagles’ offense under new coach Nick Sirianni. You could hardly blame the 23-year-old for leaking confidence, looking over his shoulder amid Deshaun Watson trade rumors and the Eagles’ recent acquisition of Jags fan favorite Gardner Minshew. But that didn’t happen as the second-year signal-caller handled his second NFL training camp like a pro, tuning out the noise and emerging as the Eagles’ unquestioned starter.

The Oklahoma alum (via Alabama) will trade in his PJs for a helmet and shoulder pads when the Eagles open their 2021 season in Atlanta Sunday at 1 PM ET. Hurts’ debut season was admittedly a mixed bag (51.9 completion percentage in four 2020 starts), but he showed enough potential, particularly as a rusher, for fans to feel encouraged heading into his sophomore campaign. He’ll also have the benefit of an improved receiving corps (Heisman winner DeVonta Smith has the look of a future superstar while a healthy and—from the looks of it—highly motivated Zach Ertz should do wonders for the Eagles’ passing game) and a golden matchup against a woeful Falcons secondary (most passing yards allowed last season).

In the words of one supremely confident tweeter, Birds by a million.
