Jameis Winston and the New Orleans Saints put the rest of the NFL on notice with a 38-3 thrashing of the Green Bay Packers in their Week 1 opener.

The former No. 1 overall pick threw five touchdown passes in the win, but was asked by FOX Sports’ Tom Rinaldi after the game about the impact of the defense and running game had on the game.

Winston, who has had his fair share of quirky moments over the years, attempted to answer with advice his trainer gave him heading into the game.

The only problem? Winston appeared to forget what that advice was.

“I just think we were prepared. The one thing my trainer told me, he said — what did he say?” Winston said, looking upward as he tried to remember. “He just told us to be prepared.”

It was pretty evident that was not what Winston’s trainer said, but rather he was just trying to save himself.

Winston did recall what his trainer said later when he met with the rest of the media.

“We were prepared, that was our message today,” he said. “My trainer hit me with a text this morning and said, ‘pressure is for the unprepared.’ One thing we consistently did as a unit … despite the adversity of having the be in Dallas, despite all the things that happened at home our mindset stayed the same. We prepared to play against Green Bay and play the best football that we can.”

So, “be prepared” was certainly the overall gist of the message but the exact quote definitely would have added a little more to the on-field interview.

Hey, Winston is always good for a humorous moment.
