This is one of those scenarios where there isn't a correct answer.
The Checkdown asked a variety of this year's rookie quarterbacks what they believe their ratings will be in Madden NFL 22:
Here's a look at some of our favorite answers:
- Zach Wilson, New York Jets: "My Madden rating should be a 90, because it's like OK, but it's not great, because I haven't done anything yet."
- Mac Jones, New England Patriots: "I think my Madden rating would be probably a little lower than people would give me credit for. I don't know, maybe like 85. But I know that they would lowball me."
For what it's worth, Joe Burrow, last year's No. 1 pick, opened with a 76 rating in Madden NFL 20, so both are almost certainly overestimating how EA Sports will value them. This year's No. 1 pick Trevor Lawrence will probably be at or around 80, and that's especially high for a rookie quarterback.
There isn't yet a release date for Madden NFL 22, but the game typically comes out in August. We don't yet know who the cover athlete will be, although NFL MVP runner-up Josh Allen could be an interesting candidate. Tom Brady was on the cover of Madden NFL 18, but that, of course, was while he was playing for the New England Patriots, so he could be an option as well.
