Everyone knows the story now about how Matthew Stafford ended up with the Rams, a trade that came together shortly after the quarterback bumped into McVay on vacation in Cabo.

This offseason has seen the Rams, after winning the Super Bowl in February, land a few other notable names, including Allen Robinson and Bobby Wagner.

Appearing Thursday on the “Rich Eisen Show”, McVay was asked if he ran into any of the new additions in Cabo. And while it wasn’t Cabo, he did actually have a chance encounter with Wagner.

“You know what’s funny, though, I did actually run into Bobby Wagner prior to him leaving the Seahawks at Wally’s in Beverly Hills,” McVay said. “I was with Raheem Morris and Chris Shula and we ran into him and DK Metcalf and I said, ‘Hey, maybe this means something.’ And what do you know? Now he’s a Ram. Not tampering, though! I was not tampering, I just said ‘hello, how you doin'?’”

Wagner admitted that he was prepared for the possibility of the Seahawks cutting him this offseason, and that the trade of Russell Wilson ultimately forced him to gear up for the possibility.

The linebacker is a Los Angeles native, so the Rams likely were an appealing destination no matter what. But the coincidence of bumping into McVay certainty didn’t hurt, and now the Rams will once again boast a star-studded defense that figures to be among the best in the NFL.
