Ravens injury crisis deepens with setbacks for Ronnie Stanley, Chris Westry

By , Audacy Sports

The Ravens' brutal run of injury news continued this week, with new reports indicating that All-Pro left tackle Ronnie Stanley and defensive back Chris Westry could both be facing multi-week absences.

Stanley, an All-Pro in 2019, was likely out for Sunday and perhaps longer while undergoing testing on an ankle injury, according to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network, while Westry suffered a knee injury, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

A long-term injury to the 27-year-old Stanley would be a tough setback in his return from last year's season-ending broken ankle. The former Notre Dame star had developed into one of the league's top-rated offensive linemen prior to the injury.

Westry was forced into action in part by the season-ending injury suffered on the eve of Week 1 by cornerback Marcus Peters. The 24-year-old had previously spent time with the Cowboys' and Ravens' practice teams after going undrafted out of Kentucky in 2019, and was appearing in just his third career regular-season game in the Monday Night Football matchup against the Raiders. He played 33 of the Ravens' 80 defensive snaps, according to Fowler.

The reported injuries to Stanley and Westry come after several projected starters or regular contributors were lost for the season, including JK Dobbins, Gus Edwards, Justice Hill, and Peters. As well, starting cornerback Marlon Humphrey (back) was limited at Wednesday practice, while rookie wide receiver Rashod Bateman has been out since having groin surgery during training camp.

There's no sympathy points in the NFL -- it's "next man up" for every team, after all. But the Ravens seem to have been hit especially hard in a short timeframe.

The Stanley injury was expected to prompt a shuffle on the Ravens' offensive line, with former Steeler Alejandro Villanueva sliding over from right tackle to the left side, per La Canfora.

In Week 2, the beleaguered Ravens host the Chiefs for their home opener, on Sunday Night Football.
