The Saints have placed backup quarterback Jameis Winston on the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list, meaning he’ll be out for Sunday’s matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Without Winston, the Saints will have quarterback Drew Brees, who will start Sunday’s contest after missing the last four games with rib fractures and a collapsed lung, and Taysom Hill -- who went 3-1 as a starter in Brees’ absence -- available for the game against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs' high-powered offense.
Hill, who normally receives snaps at various positions when Brees is on the field will likely see his playing time reduced Sunday as he will be the only other available QB for New Orleans since the Saints waived backup Trevor Siemian Saturday.
It was not reported whether nor not Winston tested positive, or if he came into close contact with a known positive. No other Saints players have been added to the list.
Winston was slated to be the backup quarterback for Sunday's game with Brees returning to the starting role and Hill to be used in multiple roles, as the team had done prior to the veteran quarterback's injury.
According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, the Saints have liked what they have seen from Winston this year -- despite giving Hill the nod to replace Brees -- and the former No. 1 overall pick could be back with the team beyond 2020.
