Tom Brady got the better of Patrick Mahomes on the gridiron Sunday in Super Bowl LV, but who would win on the links? TNT is hoping to solve that mystery once and for all. According to TMZ, TNT is hoping to stage its fourth installment of “The Match,” a celebrity golf event that counts Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Charles Barkley, Stephen Curry and Peyton Manning as past participants, this spring with the rival QBs expected to headline this year’s field.
This would mark Brady’s second appearance in “The Match” series after previously partnering with Mickelson against Woods and Manning in a Memorial Day showdown played under damp conditions. While Tiger and Peyton were the winners on that particular afternoon, the shot of the day belonged to Brady, who sank a miraculous chip from over 100 yards out on the Par-5 seventh hole at Medalist Golf Club, which happens to be Woods’ home course.
Mahomes, who boasts a 14 handicap, according to Golf Digest, put his skills on display at the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship in Lake Tahoe last summer, finishing a respectable 38th. While those involved are “optimistic” of Brady and Mahomes’ participation, it may have to wait until Mahomes is cleared from his recent foot surgery. The Chiefs megastar went under the knife Wednesday to repair a torn plantar plate, an injury that noticeably affected his mobility late in the season.
“The Match” has been a major draw since debuting in 2018, scoring huge television ratings while raising millions for charitable causes including COVID relief and initiatives benefiting historically black colleges (HBCUs). Event organizers are still seeking a venue for this year’s festivities, though past tournaments have been held in Las Vegas, Florida and Tucson.
