Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is one of the most recognized players and names in the NFL.
But his name might not be what we think it is.
A clip of Kelce appearing on the Barstool podcast, “Bussin’ with the Boys,” from November surfaced on Twitter Wednesday afternoon where the eight-year veteran revealed his real name is actually pronounced as one syllable — “Kelse” as opposed to “Kel-see.”
Kelce mentioned it after he mispronounced host and Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan’s last name as “Lee wan.”
“I got Kel-see and Kelse. My real name is Kelse,” the Pro Bowler said.
There was no follow-up to this from either Lewan or his co-host, Raiders linebacker Will Compton, so we have no idea if Kelce is trolling everyone here or if everyone has genuinely been pronouncing his name wrong all this time.
Even Kelce's teammates are stunned.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes caught wind of the clip on Wednesday to express his bewilderment and Tyreek Hill replied to Mahomes in shock that he’s been saying Kelce’s name wrong the whole time.
What is even more remarkable, if this is true, is that Kelce’s brother — Jason — is a 10-year veteran in the league with the Philadelphia Eagles and has also never made this clarification.
In fact, a video of Jason from college shows the center introducing himself as "Kel-see," which seems to indicate that this may be a joke.
With training camp right around the corner, we are all going to need to know soon if this is indeed true or just a troll from Travis Kelce.
