Right now, Rodgers’ future is as much of a question as a Jeopardy answer.
The Aaron Rodgers-Green Bay Packers saga continues with his status as the Packers quarterback for the 2021 season still seemingly up in the air. And the betting odds now don’t even favor him to start for Green Bay in Week 1.
Rodgers has been expressing his displeasure with the Packers, while serving as a Jeopardy guest host. He’s even playing a Jeopardy guest host on another TV show altogether, appearing on ABC’s show The Conners.
Odds are out for if Rodgers will be starting (or not) as the Green Bay quarterback this upcoming season, and for which quarterback might replace him.
The odds that Rodgers will take a Packers’ Week 1 snap are Even for Yes and -140 for No.
Should the No -140 hit, Jordan Love is favored to do the honors as Green Bay’s Week 1 starter with 3-2 odds.
Packers GM Brian Gutekunst recently said Love has “a long way to go” in his development, but did say the team is excited about said development. It doesn’t exactly sound like he’d be the team’s first choice to replace Rodgers.
Also on the list is Derek Carr with 4-1 odds, Drew Lock also with 4-1 odds, Teddy Bridgewater at 5-1, Russell Wilson at 12-1, and Jimmy Garoppolo at 16-1.
I’d think Denver Broncos quarterback Lock is the most likely player on this list, since Rodgers has mentioned the Broncos as a potential landing spot should the Packers trade him. Maybe for Lock. Or Bridgewater, who just joined the Broncos.
As for whether Rodgers might retire from football, the odds favor him hanging it up. Odds for him to retire before Week 1 of the 2021 season are Yes -400 and No +250.
Should the Packers decide not to trade him and he still wants out, as someone pointed out on Twitter, it will be rather difficult for Rodgers to leave Green Bay.
