(SportsRadio 610) -- The Houston Astros announced their initial player pool of 56 players Sunday.
Houston will carry 30 pitchers and 26 position players, according to Astros general manager James Click.
The Astros' player pool consists of players who will be eligible to play for them in the Major Leagues in 2020. A club's player pool can consist of up to 60 players
On Opening Day, the Astros will set an active roster, pulling all players on the roster from their player pool. The remaining players that do not make the Major League roster will continue training at an alternate site and can be recalled throughout the season under the normal option and recall rules.
The Astros are scheduled to report to spring training this week, but will be split between Minute Maid Park and the University of Houston's baseball facilities.
