HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- With Chris Devenski on the mound, Josh Reddick caught Daniel Vogelbach's soft fly ball to right field, not just ending the Astros 9-0 win over the Seattle Mariners Saturday at Minute Maid Park, but sealing the 12th no-hitter in franchise history.
In his Astros debut, Aaron Sanchez struck out six in the game's first six innings, before giving way to Will Harris who kept the no-hitter alive in the seventh. Joe Biagini debuted on the mound for the Astros in the eighth before Devenski recorded the game's final three outs for the Astros first no-hitter since Mike Fiers did it to the Los Angeles Dodgers on August 21, 2015. Saturday was the second combined no-hitter in franchise history, joining the six pitcher no-hitter on June 11, 2003 at Yankee Stadium.
The win is the Astros fifth in their last games and improves their record to 72-40 on the season.
Houston led all night as their first three batters reached against Mariners starter Marco Gonzales. Michael Brantley's double plated George Springer for the game's first run, Alex Bregman's ground out brought home Jose Altuve before Yordan Alvarez singled in Brantley. The Astros didn't score against Gonzales again until the fifth when Altuve smacked a 2-2 change up over the rightfield wall for his 18th home run of the season. Brantley doubled home a pair in the sixth off Matt Wisler, before Yuli Gurriel brought home drove home a run with a double off Gerson Bautista in the seventh.
Brantley struck again for his third hit of the night when his single in the eighth inning scored Jake Marisnick, giving him four RBI on the night, and he scored when Bregman followed with a triple.
Altuve, Bregman, Alvarez, and Carlos Correa had two hit games for the Astros.
The Astros will try to complete the sweep of the Mariners Sunday afternoon when they send Justin Verlander to the mound.
