(SportsRadio 610) -- Alex Bregman has launched a $1 million fundraising campaign to help feed Houston area residents during the COVID-19 health crisis.
The Astros infielder was joined by “Mattress Mack” McIngvale in each committing $100,000 for the cause.
Astros pitcher Justin Verlander also announced he's dedicating his first weekly paycheck to the food bank. Verlander had previously announced he'd be donating his weekly paychecks to different charities each week.
. @KateUpton and I are incredibly grateful to @HoustonFoodBank & @FeedingAmerica for doing so much to serve those in need during these unprecedented times. Visit https://t.co/X7qDVTVCij for more info, or https://t.co/SgVkRUEkUQ to find a food bank near you. #covid19 pic.twitter.com/2LmJdBzguI

April 10, 2020 Bregman and his fiancée, Reagan Howard, also put in some sweat equity at the food bank last week to help bring awareness to the campaign.
“We definitely think the Houston Food Bank does unbelievable work, and we wanted to help out, but not only donate money,” Bregman told Brian McTaggart of
MLB.com. “We want to be on hand and actually help and see where the money we’re donating is going and ensure the people that donate to this cause that their money goes to exactly what it is, and that’s feeding the kids here in Houston.”
