Justin Verlander’s outing was somewhat typical with what has happened to him the last couple seasons. Last year he was third in all of baseball in home runs allowed, and that trend continued this year and in this start as he allowed three more. Verlander had just one three-up-three-down inning in his seven innings of work with six strikeouts, one walk, seven hits and four earned runs.
"I've got to do a better job of keeping the ball in the yard. It's been a common theme here all year really. Really the last four, five starts," Justin said. "Balls in the air go out."
Michael Brantley led the charge for the lineup going 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, a single and scoring three times. Yuli Gurriel also homered in the eighth inning to bring the game within one run. Yordan Alvarez had the only other hit for the Astros, a double.
