Houston (SPORTSRADIO 610) - Wade Miley carried a perfect game into the sixth inning Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park, retiring the first 16 batters he faced. Unfortunately he would not factor in the decision after Astros closer Roberto Osuna gave up a three-run go-ahead home run to Matt Olson in the ninth. An Aledmys Diaz sacrifice fly would tie the game at three, but in the 11th the A’s would regain the lead and hold on to end the Astros win streak by a final score of 4-3.

Miley started the ninth inning but surrendered a leadoff walk, followed by a hit, and exited to a thunderous applause. He finished eight shutout frames, surrendering just four hits while striking out six and was charged with two earned runs cashed in by Osuna. Colin McHugh would be charged with the loss after giving up the eventual game winning RBI double to Ramon Laureano.

Former Astro, and World Series Champion, Mike Fiers had a strong outing as well. He made it 7.2 innings, giving up just two runs on six hits. In his exit, some Astros fans seemed to remember his 2017 season and appreciated his performance in a respectful ovation.

Yuli Gurriel extended his hitting streak to twelve games with a two-run inside-the-park home run. In the streak he is 21-for-49 which is a .429 batting average. It was also Gurriel’s tenth straight home game with an extra-base hit, a franchise record.

Injury Update:

Relief pitcher Josh James was placed on the 10-day Injured List with right shoulder soreness. The Astros recalled pitcher Cy Sneed from Triple-A Round Rock as his replacement. James’ IL stint is retroactive to July 22nd.
