Astros outfielder Yordan Alvarez is the unanimous American League Rookie of the Year, Major League Baseball announced Monday. 

Alvarez was called up his Major League debut for the Astros on June 9. He went on to hit 27 home runs in the regular season with a .655 slugging percentage and 1.067 OPS.

Alvarez had 14 hits in 58 postseason at bats. His only postseason home run came in Game 5 of the World Series, when the Astros took a 3-2 lead over the Washington Nationals. The Nationals then won the next two games at Minute Maid Park to capture the World Series.
