At this time last year, Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson was just trying to rehab his way back from a torn ACL. But in 2019, the 2 year veteran will finally have full offseason to master his craft and correct mistakes from last year.
“I’m going in full throttle and embracing the whole process,” said Watson Tuesday as the Texans reported to NRG Stadium for the start of their offseason program. “It’s a new year. A new opportunity for us and myself to grind and get better. The motto as always to get 1% better each and ever single day. What am I doing each and every day to help myself master my craft and to help this team?”
“He just has so much knowledge,” said Watson of his new quarterbacks coach. “He’s seen so much, been around so many people, and has won so much. It’s a great opportunity for myself and for that QB room to grow and expand as much as we can.”
Watson is also excited to work more extensively with Texans new offensive coordinator Tim Kelly. Kelly, who last served as the Texans tight end coach, has been on Bill O’Brien’s staff since he took the job in 2014.
“He deserves it,” Watson said of Kelly’s promotion to O.C.. “I’ve seen him work. I’ve seen how much he’s learned under Bill O’Brien. All the time and effort he’s put in with helping this offense and this team be as successful as we can. It’s been great.”
