Texans QB Deshaun Watson Named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

HOUSTON (SPORTSRADIO 610) -- Following an impressive performance by Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson in a win against the Los Angeles Chargers, the NFL named him the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Watson threw for three touchdowns Sunday, going 25-for-34 with 351 yards and no interceptions in the Texans 27-20 win. Watson responded well after an early fumble, which led to a Chargers touchdown.
He also scrambled from the pocket and stepped up to make or extend plays with his legs.

There was a 15-yard run, and in the fourth quarter, he made a big play to avoid pressure and find Jordan Akins for Houston's final touchdown of the game.

Watson became the fastest player in NFL history with at least 6,500 career passing yards and 500 career rushing yards in just 26 games. He also joined Kurt Warner, Dan Marino and Patrick Mahomes as the only players in league history with at least 6,000 yards and 50 passing touchdowns in the player's first 26 games.

For the Texans, it's the second consecutive week taking in player of the week honors.

Linebacker Whitney Mercilus was the AFC Defensive Player of the Week after the win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones, in the first start of his career, was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Jones replaced veteran Eli Manning in the starting lineup and played well in a close win on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He went 23-for-36 with two touchdowns and 336 yards passing.

Jaguars defensive end Calais Campbell was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week after getting three sacks in their win over the Tennessee Titans last Thursday. 

Green Bay Packers linebacker Preston Smith was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after his three sacks in a win against the Broncos.
