For the 5th consecutive season, Astros second baseman Jose Altuve was presented with Major League Baseball's Silver Slugger Award. The latest honor, recognizes Altuve as the American League's best hitter at his position and ties him with Astros Hall-of-Famer Craig Biggio as the only players in team history to win five Silver Sluggers.
The honor recognizes Altuve as the top hitter in the American League at his position.
Despite Altuve missing 25 regular season games for the Astros in 2018, the 2017 American League MVP slashed .316, totaled 169 hits while driving in 61 runs.
While an impressive line nonetheless in 2018, considering what Altuve has done the previous four seasons, including his MVP year it was considered a down year for him. Altuve, won three batting titles and had at least 200 hits from 2014-2017. A knee injury limited Altuve's play last year, but he was voted to a 5th straight All-Star game and still led the club in average and stolen bases (17) while continuing to flash the leather in the field.
