Longtime Rockets executive Gersson Rosas will leave the team to become the Minnesota Timberwolves Director of Basketball Operations.

Rosas, a native of Columbia, first joined the Rockets in 2003 as a video coordinator and rose up the ranks to become the team's executive vice president of basketball operations before leaving in 2013 to become the Dallas Mavericks general manager. He returned to the Rockets after leaving Dallas three months into his tenure.

"I'm happy it worked out for him; obviously a big loss for us," Rockets general manager Daryl Morey told the Houston Chronicle. "He's been ready for quite some time. I'm happy we could work together for as long as we did. I've really been lucky that these other teams have not been smart enough to hire him."

Rosas replaces Tom Thibodeau, who was fired in January. The Wolves finished the season 36-46, missing the playoffs for the 14th time in 15 seasons.
