The No. 13 ranking is the first time UH basketball has been ranked in the top 15 of a major poll since Phi Slama Jama was exciting crowds inside of Hofheinz Pavilion in 1983-84.
This year’s Cougars may not be tearing the rim off the backboard, but they possess one of the stingiest defenses in the nation that has seen them storm to a 20-1 record on the season, and tied for the American Conference lead with Cincinnati at 7-1.
The Cougars have a chance to atone for their only loss of the year on Thursday when they welcome Temple to Houston with revenge on their mind following a controversial 73-69 loss in Philadelphia earlier this season.
