Jalen Hurts was named the College Athlete of the Year at the Houston Sports Awards on Tuesday night.

Hurts, who played high school football in Channelview, was a Heisman Trophy candidate in 2019, leading the Oklahoma Sooners to a Big 12 championship and College Football Playoff appearance.

After transferring from Alabama, where he started as a true freshman in 2016, Hurts had his best season as a senior at Oklahoma.

Hurts threw for a career-high 3,851 yards and 32 touchdowns. He finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting behind LSU's Joe Burrow.
