University of Houston head basketball coach Kelvin Sampson was named Coach of the Year at the Houston Sports Awards on Tursday.
Sampson led the Cougars to the Sweet Sixteen last season as a No. 3 seed in the Midwest region of the NCAA tournament.
The Cougars went 29-2 in the regular season, including a 16-2 record in the American Athletic Conference.
Sampson is now in his sixth year leading the UH basketball team.
